I'm thinking this could be done with a weight sensor. Once the plant has been watered, it'll wait a set period of time before watering that specific one again.įinally, inside of the water container, I would like to have a sensor with some way of determining when the water level is becoming low, and if it is, turn on a red LED to tell me that I should fill it back up again. Then I'll have soil moisture sensors in each plant, controlled by an Arduino that will determine when a plants soil is beginning to become dry, and turn on the valves to that plant for a set period of time. A simple one valve for one plant would be much easier to manage and add to. Now, I could do some sort of binary tree valve system, but I'm thinking that may be more complicated to keep up with and especially to add new plants to.

Then, I would use some kind of valve to control where the flow of water would go, probably one valve per plant plus one at the very beginning that would be used to shut off the water source as a whole. I would then run the tubing into each of the plants, probably run a loop of tubing inside each of the plant pots and poke holes in the tube so that the plant gets watered all around. Here's what I'm thinking, I could take a 2 liter soda bottle and cut the top off of it and make a hole in the bottom, then I could use some plastic tubing (about the same size as a standard straw) and hot glue it to the bottom of the soda bottle. I've seen some automated setups for outdoor gardens, but I haven't seen anything for a small scale indoor setup yet. I would like to create an automated Watering system for some indoor plants/herbs.
